On Thursday it was our second House Charity Day and this time it was the chance for the St. George’s boys to lead our fundraising activities. Their chosen charity was Guide Dogs for the Blind. As this is also a cause supported by Pre-Prep, members of the Pre-Prep School Council joined Prep for assembly in Chapel, along with working guide dogs Benson and Nicksey and their owners.
The boys led us through a fast-paced assembly filled with doggie facts and figures and told us of the good work of their chosen charity. We also had a preview of some of the amazing activities that the boys have been doing in their Magic £5 Challenge. Each boy was challenged to invest £5 in order to make a profit to donate to the Guide Dogs. They were given some suggestions such as using the money to buy ingredients and bake cakes to sell, purchasing equipment to hold car washes and so on. The boys certainly rose to the challenge and showed their entrepreneurial spark.
Meanwhile the St. George’s mums were out in force to help with a cake and sweetie sale and many activities in the sports hall at break and lunchtime. The tremendous spread of doggie-themed cakes in the Board Room was a ‘pawfect’ way to end the day!
The total raised so far is a tremendous £1,325 but money is still coming in as the boys have until half-term to complete their £5 challenge. What a superb effort. Mr Hill’s T-shirt said it all – it really was difficult ‘to keep calm and carry on’ with all the excitement of St. George’s House Charity Day!
