On Friday 13 October, Year 5 were joined by an Anglo-Saxon lady called Ethelind.
Ethelind was a ‘churl’ (a worker) with no high position in society! The children learnt all about life in Anglo-Saxon times such as what food they ate, how they paid taxes in goods, their gods and goddesses and how they entertained themselves. Ethelind described ‘runes’ to the children and how they were used to tell fortunes and then she even read the fortunes of some of the children!
Finally, the children re-enacted the legend of Beowulf, the great warrior, with music and sound effects! The visit was filled with fun and excitement for all!
